Our Story

In the 1980s, Lorraine and I arrived in New Zealand on a working holiday and quickly recognised it as the perfect place to build a future and raise a family. Seeing an opportunity in the painting and decorating industry, I founded JMA Decorators and worked tirelessly to support my family while establishing a strong foundation for the business.

From these early beginnings, JMA has grown into one of New Zealand’s largest painting companies—while remaining proudly family owned and operated. Over time, the business has evolved significantly, and today operates as JMA Group Services, reflecting both our growth and diversification across the industry.

Despite this evolution, what has never changed is our commitment to excellence. The same high level of craftsmanship, expertise, and quality service that defined JMA Decorators in the early years continues to underpin everything we do today, as we expand into new sectors and capabilities.

Throughout this journey, I have had the privilege of mentoring, training, and developing many talented individuals. It is especially rewarding to see a number of our former team members go on to establish their own successful businesses, contributing to the strength of the wider industry.

Looking ahead, JMA Group Services will continue to grow and evolve—embracing new technologies, exploring emerging markets, and delivering innovative solutions for future generations.

Originally established as JMA Decorators, we built our reputation through excellence in commercial painting and a commitment to reliable, professional service.

As our capabilities have grown, so too has our business—leading to the development of JMA Group Services, a dedicated division offering a wider range of specialised surface solutions.

Today, we provide a comprehensive service across interior and exterior painting, plastering, wallpapering, abrasive blasting, intumescent coatings, and floor coatings. From large-scale commercial projects to specialised finishing and protection systems, our experienced team is focused on delivering durable, high-quality results every time.

All decorating materials are correctly stored and handled to prevent contamination, ensure safety, and reduce unnecessary disposal. We actively support the PaintWise recycling programme, ensuring empty paint containers and suitable materials are responsibly recycled. Where possible, we also recommend the use of environmentally friendly and low‑impact products, helping clients make sustainable choices without compromising quality or performance. By using premium‑quality materials, we deliver longer‑lasting finishes that extend the lifespan of coatings and surfaces, reducing the need for frequent recoating and material consumption. Through these practices, JMA Group Services continues to support sustainable outcomes while maintaining the standards our clients expect.

JMA Group Services invests in modern, well‑maintained plant and equipment to improve efficiency, safety, and project delivery. Our capabilities include an Amphi Blast Trailer, cherry pickers, and scissor lifts, allowing us to complete surface preparation and coating works safely and effectively across a wide range of sites.
